Born in Streatham, South West London, in March 1945. Moved to Carshalton in Surrey in 1951 where he grew up. Educated at Elmwood County Secondary School.
Joined Express Newspapers in Fleet Street in 1961. In 1969 he moved to Eastbourne where he became involved with local politics.
Married Jill in 1974. They have three children – James who is 29, Philip 27 and Anna 20.
Became a member of Eastbourne Borough Council in 1977 representing the Hampden Park Ward but gave up in 1983 when the family was growing up.
In 1996 he was made redundant after 35 years with Express Newspapers, finishing as Night Production Manager – which he says was one of the best days of his life!
Worked for Kings Church, Eastbourne, for six years setting up and servicing their conference facilities. In 2003 he was offered the role of Office Manager to Nigel Waterson, MP for Eastbourne and still holds this position.
Was re-elected in 2000 for the old Ocklynge Ward and then in 2004 for the Ratton Ward.
Was Deputy Leader of the Conservative opposition from 2002-2004 and has sat on numerous committees.
Does not have a lot of spare time but enjoys the Lake District which he likes to visit every year. Also enjoys holidays in Tuscany.
Has supported Chelsea football club since his Dad used to take him there in the 1950s. Follows Eastbourne Borough who he admires for their recent achievements and went to Oxford last year for the FA Cup replay.
Loves Eastbourne and all that it offers and is proud that his children are true Eastbournians.
