The Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Greg Szanto, has chosen to support the Alzheimer's Society during his term of office.
In East Sussex Downs and Weald PCT there are 6,430 people over the age of 65 with a dementia. It is estimated by 2021 there will be 8,463 in this area. At present there are currently 700,000 people with dementia in the UK of which 15,000 are younger people.
Eastbourne Branch
The Eastbourne Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society was founded in 1991. The aims of the society are to:
improve understanding and knowledge of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias amongst professionals and also the general public.
ensure that a range of good quality local services are provided to support people who have dementia and their carers.
The society provides a range of services such as a helpline and information programmes. They also run a Meet and Greet Club where carers and people with dementia can meet up to share thoughts and ideas.
