Eastbourne Borough Council has published a draft Empty Property Strategy for the period 2009–2014.
Empty properties are a wasted resource and a potential problem if left unoccupied and neglected over a long period. Returning them to use adds to the provision of decent homes and improves the environment.
Our strategy looks at the extent of the problem and reviews what has been done about it nationally, regionally and locally during the period of the previous strategy, 2003–2008.
The strategy highlights our continuing commitment to tackling the problem and sets out a revised corporate plan for returning empty properties to use, preferably by working with owners but being prepared to consider the use of enforcement powers as a last resort.
