Annual Report
Each year, in December, the Council produces a progress report on its disability equality work and publishes an action plan for the year ahead.
This consultation closed on the 24th February 2010 and 4 comments were received from members of the public these are listed below.
Comment 1 - Independent Living Advisor - there are now at least 3 different sorts of ILAs working with disabled people in East Sussex. There are ILA's working for A4E providing advice around managing direct payment; ILAs working for Anchor Staying Put around lower level equipment and the ILA working for EBC. Would another title be impossible to think of? It is very confusing for disabled people.
Comment 2 - Priority should be given to accessible housing. Too often we are moving disabled people into property that is deemed acceptable when in reality a great deal of time and money then has to be spend on making it fully accessible.
Comment 3 - Community Transport - presume this is being monitored. Could priority be given to accessibility and the training of drivers.
Comment 4 - Schools - is it possible that a disability awareness campaign could be launched so that young people grow up with a greater understanding and tolerance of disabled people. The hit and miss approach currently needs to be structured and developed to include all disabilities.
These comments have been referred back to the services who have responsibility for them once comments have been received back from the serives then the necessary amendments will be made to the DisabilityEquality Scheme Annual Action Plan.
