The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 has recently been amended by the DDA 2005. This came into force in December 2006. A specific requirement of this duty is to prepare and publish a Disability Equality Scheme (DES).
The council has now prepared its DES following guidance issued under statutory code of practice of The Duty to Promote Disability Equality.
Action Plan
A consultation was held on the draft document published below which includes our action plan. The council sees the action plan as a flexible document which can be adapted easily to meet the changing needs and realistic expectations of people with disabilities, as they emerge over time.
