Legal Services Ombudsman

The Legal Services Ombudsman is appointed by the Lord Chancellor under the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 to oversee the handling of complaints against solicitors, barristers, licensed conveyancers, legal executives and patent agents by their professional bodies.

If you are unable to resolve your complaint with the lawyer then you must first complain to the relevant professional body. If you have done this and are not satisfied with the way the matter was handled or with the decision, then you can ask the Legal Services Ombudsman to investigate.

The Ombudsman is independent of the legal profession and the service is free of charge.
