An indicator is data, especially facts or numbers, which shows us if we are making progress either forward or backward towards our targets.
We collect & report data from many different sources so the time periods may not always be the same.
The Eastbourne Strategic Partnership in January 2007 had the theme of environment.
The three Eastbourne Community Strategy Environment Indicators are:
Indicator 4
This indicator looks at the percentage of land in Eastbourne set aside as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) that is in favourable condition.

In January 2007 Bullingdean is in unfavourable condition, but recovering. The remaining sites of SSSI in Eastbourne are in favourable condition.
Indicator 5
a) This indicator looks at the percentage of household waste that is recycled.

Our target for 2008/9 is to recycle 20% of our household waste. In January 2007 our recycling rate was 17%.
b) This indicator looks at the percentage of our household waste that is put to re-use or composted.

Our target for 2008/9 is to re-use or compost 7% of our household waste. In January 2007 our re-use or compost rate was 6%.
Indicator 6
This indicator looks at traffic growth measured by the number of vehicles on roads in Eastbourne.

The current annual growth of the number of vehicles on the roads in Eastbourne is 1.7%, which is within the 2.4% target.
