Crime Disorder and Substance Misuse Strategy
The Crime Reduction Partnership performs a three-yearly audit of data and consultation exercises.
To date this audit has identified five priorities for reducing crime, disorder (including anti-social behaviour) and substance misuse.
These are:
Targeting prolific and priority offenders
Preventing and reducing drug and alcohol misuse
Preventing and reducing property crime
Preventing and reducing violent crime
Preventing and reducing anti-social behaviour
These form the basis of the Crime, Disorder and Substance Misuse Strategy 2005 to 2008. The current strategy builds upon the work already undertaken by the partnership over the last six years.
Priority Services
To help tackle the problem areas identified, the partnership will develop priority services:
- Prioritising prolific offenders for drug treatment. Enhancing the level of aftercare they receive once they complete drug and alcohol treatment.
- Working with Licensees to discourage binge drinking. Banning violent customers from accessing pubs, clubs and taxi services.
- Prioritising the provision of support for victims. Encouraging them to report domestic violence and enable them to provide evidence to the police and courts to bring about prosecutions.
- Working with schools to assist Headteachers in the prevention and detection of crimes. This includes acts of anti-social behaviour committed within school premises or by pupils travelling to and from school premises.
- Developing a mentoring service to work with young people who are either offenders, or likely to offend. Giving priority to those with ASBOs (Anti-Social Behaviour Orders) or ABCs (Acceptable Behaviour Contracts) or those who are likely to be issued with them in the near future.
- Developing positive activities for young people to deter them from crime and anti-social behaviour.
