Funerals Arranged by the Council
Eastbourne Borough Council may, under Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984, arrange the funeral of anyone who dies within the Borough boundary when there is no-one available to take responsibility for the funeral.
The council would not take responsibility for arranging the funeral if:
- The next of kin receives benefits (see Help with Funeral Costs)
- The deceased died in hospital, in which case the hospital arranges the funeral
