Cremation Standards

Eastbourne Borough Council is a member of the Federation of British Cremation Authorities and adheres strictly to the Code of Cremation Practice, a copy of which can be seen at the Crematorium Office.

Members of the public are welcome to look over the premises, though by appointment please.

After each service has concluded, the coffin is removed from the chapel and individually cremated, exactly as it has been received into the chapel. An identity card, which is checked against the nameplate on the coffin, accompanies the coffin throughout the process ensuring the identity of the cremated remains.

Instructions given for the final resting place of cremated remains will only be taken from the applicant for the funeral. There are a number of options available to you.

They can be strewn in the Gardens of Remembrance or buried in either of our two cemeteries, or they can be collected from us by the applicant or the Funeral Director and taken to rest elsewhere. Alternatively, they can be held at the crematorium for up to a month pending a decision.

We will be pleased to discuss these options should you require further advice.
