Housing Health and Safety Rating System
The new Housing Act has replaced the old housing fitness standard in the Housing Act 1985 and introduces the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) as the new basis for local authority intervention in housing conditions.
This new risk assessment system has changed the way local authorities assess housing conditions.
HMO Licensing ensures that local authorities have the information required to identify and target HMOs that pose the greatest risk under the HHSRS, and therefore help to reduce death and injury from fire and other health and safety hazards.
There is more information about the HHSRS in our Improvements, Repairs and Safety section - go to Related Pages.
