Better Backs Campaign
The annual Better Backs campaign aims to reduce work-related back pain and change attitudes and beliefs about back problems and returning to work.

2007 Campaign

The focus of the 2007 campaign is on upper limb disorders (ULDs) and the prevention of manual handling and ULD related injuries in the workplace.

Every year, thousands of people suffer from back pain at work. One in five of those who suffer work-related ill health has back pain - bad both for people and for business.

Whatever Your Job, Look After Your Back

The campaign gives advice on:

  • managing back pain with the aim of reducing its impact and the number of working days lost
  • promoting sensible precautions that reduce the risk of back pain
  • emphasising the positive benefits of staying active with back pain
  • how employees and employers can work together to help people return to normal activities

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website has advice for employers and safety representatives on assessing and reducing risks, cost-effective preventative measures and managing sickness absence.
