Eastbourne Tobacco Control Group

Smokefree Eastbourne

Find out about the work of the Eastbourne Tobacco Control Group.

 

The group is part of the Healthy Eastbourne Board, a partnership of agencies taking joint action to improve the health of the local community.

Our Aims

The group aims to:

 

  • Raise awareness of new smoke free legislation in Eastbourne

  • Reduce smoking prevalence

  • Reduce exposure to second hand smoke

  • Support and monitor enforcement of the new legislation

  • Support the Local Strategic Partnership and Local Area Agreement health improvement objectives

Activities

We will:

 

  • Support education and enforcement activities

  • Engage employers via existing networks about forthcoming legislation

  • Offer targeted Stop Smoking clinics and policy advice to workplaces

  • Raise public awareness via a range of venues including pubs, sports venues, clubs and gyms

  • Consider promotion of a Smoke Free Homes initiative

The group is chaired by the council's Assistant Director for Housing and Health Services, with representatives from:

 

  • Eastbourne Borough Council Environmental Health

  • East Sussex Downs and Weald NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT)

  • East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust

  • East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service
