Health and Safety at Work - What We Do Not Deal With

Find out what the council's Health and Safety Team do not deal with and how you can help yourself to get advice or guidance. 

We do not deal with:

  • Hotel accommodation (short-stay) conditions, cleanliness and standards of customer service – this is dealt with by the council’s Tourism Team, if the provider is a member of the Eastbourne Hospitality Association, or alternatively Consumer Direct

  • Retail standards of customer service – this is dealt with by Consumer Direct

  • Health and safety standards in nursing homes – these are dealt with by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), although we deal with these in care homes

  • Standards of care in nursing or residential care homes – this is dealt with by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

  • Housing Health and Safety Rating System in privately rented properties and houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) - this is dealt with by the council’s Private Housing Team

  • Employee relations and workplace disputes - these are dealt with by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS)

  • Fire safety in the workplace - this is dealt with by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS)

  • Scaffolding - any urgent complaints about the location or safety of scaffolding should be reported to East Sussex County Council’s Highways Team

  • Construction site safety, including worker safety or access while the site is closed or vacant – this is dealt with by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

  • Asbestos in the home – this is dealt with by the council’s Private Housing Team

  • Asbestos outside the home, for example a garden shed or a bonfire – this is dealt with by the council’s Pollution Team
