Summary of Our Services
The main objective of the team is to ensure that risks to people’s health, safety and welfare in the changing workplace are properly controlled. We:
- respond to safety complaints about poor workplace conditions that are likely to result in ill health - find out more on our Workers Advice page in this section
- investigate the most serious workplace accidents and incidents
- inspect commercial premises in Eastbourne. The frequency of inspection is based on a risk rating classification allocated to them. We target our attention to those premises with the highest rating first, so resources are aimed at those premises posing the greatest risk

prioritise key safety topics - falls from height, workplace transport, musculoskeletal disorders, slips and trips and asbestos
- accept and log statutory reports such as lift notifications and licensed asbestos removals
- follow up concerns regarding practices in skin piercing establishments
- respond to Safety Representative complaints or concerns
- comment on planning applications and licensing applications
- respond to major incidents and emergencies across Sussex under the Flexible Warrant Scheme and the Major Incident Team arrangements
- run local campaigns to raise awareness of important health and safety at work issues - find out more in this section
- work in partnership with the HSE and other organisations for the benefit of local businesses
