Smokefree Workplaces and Vehicles
Do you think the new smokefree legislation only applies to public places such as restaurants? In fact, it applies to offices and workplaces too.
Smokefree Legislation
From 1 July 2007, it is now against the law to smoke, or allow anyone to smoke, in virtually all offices, factories or other enclosed workplaces.
This includes many types of work vehicles.
The new law will make your workplace a cleaner and healthier place to work.
It protects employees from the harmful effects of breathing other people's secondhand smoke.
Displaying No Smoking Signs
Making your main workplace areas smokefree is not enough. You are not able to have a smoking room inside.
And if you are already smokefree, you still need to display new approved no smoking signs, which are available free from the government or from the council's Environmental Health offices.
