Priority Topics to Improve Health and Safety
Revitalising Health and Safety is a 10 year Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strategy to significantly improve workplace health and safety.
The government's targets by 2010 are to reduce:
the working days lost due to accidents and ill health by 30%
the incidence of work-related ill health by 20%
the rate of fatalities and major injuries by 10%
To achieve these targets, five priority topics have been identified where action is most needed, concentrating on those things which are most likely to kill, injure and make people ill at work:
Work-related Stress
Slips and Trips
Musculoskeletal Disorders
Workplace Transport
Falls from Height
The council is concentrating on these priority topics in the help and advice we give and when we carry out inspections of work premises.
Our inspectors will assess how employers manage health and safety and what has been done to identify, minimise and control risks.
