Safe Start - European Week for Safety and Health

The theme for European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2006 was Safe Start - the occupational safety and health of young people.

The week ran from the 23rd - 27th October 2006.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) organised the week in Britain and the council's Environmental Health service worked in partnership to promote the campaign.

You can still download European Week 2006 Action Packs with leaflets, factsheets, posters and stickers - see details in this section.

Advice for Young People

Young people can go to our Learn about Health and Safety at Work section to find out about safety in the workplace - see Related Pages. Make sure you have a safe and healthy start in your working life.

See Other Websites to download free publications and resources, with links to interactive websites specifically aimed at young people.

We want to get teenagers thinking about health and safety. Why?

In just five years, more than 50 under-18s lost their lives in UK workplaces, and nearly 13,000 were badly injured. Across Europe, young adults have 50 per cent more accidents than older workers.

The Wiseup2work website will help you get ready for work. You will find interactive games, a chat forum and a national competition to help you find out about the risks you will face and how to handle them.
