STEP Slips and Trips E-Learning Package
STEP is an eLearning package developed by the HSE, providing slips and trips guidance through interactive learning.
It is an easy way to learn about slips and trips, how they are caused, why preventing them is important and how to tackle them. STEP includes quizzes, videos, animations, case studies and interactive sequences to enhance the learning experience.
There is a course specifically designed for hospitality and catering. Completing this package will help your understanding of slips and trips, but to reduce accidents you will also need to take action in your workplace.
Managing Work-related Violence
This HSE toolkit provides practical advice on how to conduct a risk assessment and take action to prevent or control work-related violence. It contains information on a wide range of possible control measures and good practice that other businesses have found effective.
The main focus is on tackling work-related violence towards your employees, but some of the control measures could also help to reduce the risk of violence to customers and members of the public on your premises, and reduce the risk of crime against your business.
Example Risk Assessments
You can select a Risk Assessment for either Pubs or Nightclubs on the HSE website. These example risk assessments show the kind of approach a small business might take. They can be used as a guide to think through some of the hazards in your business and the steps you need to take to control the risks.
Please note that these are not generic risk assessments that you can just put your company name on and adopt wholesale without any thought. This would not satisfy the law - and would not be effective in protecting people.
Every business is different - you need to think through the hazards and controls required in your business for yourself.
In addition to the general HSE Example Risk Assessments for your type of premises, you can also use the Violence at Work Self Assessment Questionnaire on the IOSH Risk Assessment Routefinder website.
