Helping Local Pubs and Clubs
We inspected around 90 pubs and clubs in Eastbourne over a 6 month period between October 2009 and March 2010. Joint inspections were carried out with our partners.
The main purpose of the inspections was to raise standards in the pub and club trade in the town through advice and stepped enforcement. We carried out this project because wanted to check that other peoples' health, safety or welfare were not at risk from work activities in pubs and clubs.

What We Found and What Happens Next
Overall, we found that management of the biggest health and safety hazards was under control and premises licence holders had a positive attitude towards health and safety.
Employers are encouraged to keep the good work going and to talk to their employees regularly about health and safety.
