The council's Environmental Health service publicised the Bad Hand Day? Let's Cut Out Dermatitis campaign to local hairdressers and beauty salons during January 2007.
We handed out publicity materials from the HSE campaign in free boutique-style pink and white carrier bags.
We also produced an additional pack of printed information in our publicity folders.
The printed materials are still available to download online, including posters, salon checklist and case studies.
Campaign Mailing
During the first week of January 2007, Environmental Health sent a letter, dermatitis information sheet and event invitation to all hairdressers in Eastbourne. You can download copies of the mailing below.
The mailing was followed up by telephone calls two weeks later to encourage salon staff to attend the free drop-in event. We also contacted local colleges with students on hairdressing courses.
Media Publicity
We issued a press release (in Related Pages) and our awareness event had advance publicity in the Eastbourne Gazette on 24 January 2007 and on Sovereign Radio on 26 January.
The following week, on 31 January, the Eastbourne Gazette featured a report " Hands-on approach to Health and Safety - Having a Bad Hand Day?" with a photograph from the event.
Our publicity supported the national Bad Hand Day campaign from the HSE. More resources are available on the HSE website to help salons spread the word about preventing dermatitis to staff and customers.
