Local Campaigns and Events

Watch Your Step campaign - slips and trips at work

Local campaigns run by the council's Environmental Health service include lift safety, legionella control and young worker safety.

Inspection programmes and publicity initiatives by the council's health and safety team also support national HSE campaigns.

Bad Hand Day Event

Bad Hand Day? Let’s Cut Out Dermatitis

In 2007 we ran a local awareness event for hairdressers in Eastbourne, to support the national HSE campaign Bad Hand Day? Let’s Cut Out Dermatitis:

Young Worker Safety

In 2006, for our young worker safety campaign, we used resources from the IOSH Wiseup2work campaign, and the European Week for Safety and Health campaign Safe Start. We gave talks to schools and colleges in Eastbourne and created our web section Learn about Health and Safety at Work.

Fit3 Programme - Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow

From 2006-2009 we worked with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other councils in Sussex to support the Fit3 campaign programme to reduce injury and ill health at work.

Fit3 - Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow - involved the council's health and safety officers working with local businesses to improve safety and reduce stress, ill health and employee absence.

The Fit3 programme was developed to provide a more targeted approach to health and safety. The agreement identified the work activities that have the highest rates of accidents, injuries and ill health to allow authorities to target finite resources.
