Our Local Campaigns
Our current local campaign run by the council's Environmental Health Officers is raising awareness of lift safety - examination and testing of passenger lifts, goods lifts, stair lifts and hoists:
Our previous recent campaign was Bar and Cellar Safety for pubs and clubs in Eastbourne, which ran until March 2010 - you can still download useful resources in this section:
Supporting National Campaigns
We also support national HSE campaigns such as Height Awareness, Safe Maintenance, Asbestos - The Hidden Killer and Bad Hand Day for hairdressers, through our inspections, local publicity initiatives and awareness events.
Local Business Advice Events
Between July 2010 and March 2011 our Environmental Health Officers ran a series of safety training sessions for local chefs.
The practical sessions about reducing kitchen accidents from dangerous catering equipment were held at the Langham Hotel and attended by head chefs from many of the town’s hotels:
Although our free seminar planned for October 2010 about managing outbreaks of Norovirus for hotels and care homes had to be cancelled, we have published one-stop online guidance:
Previously we ran a free health and safety awareness day for local hotels, guest houses and care homes in 2007, at the International Lawn Tennis Centre, Devonshire Park. The event particularly highlighted legionella awareness, electrical safety and fire regulations, with speakers from a wide range of organisations.
We also held a free drop-in advice event at the Town Hall in 2007 for local hairdressers and beauty salons, in support of the Bad Hand Day campaign to raise awareness of preventing work-related skin damage such as dermatitis.
