The council's Environmental Health service raises health and safety awareness by supporting national campaign publicity and running local business advice events.

Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow
We are working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other councils in Sussex to support a new campaign programme to reduce injury and ill health at work.
Fit3 - Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow - involves the council's health and safety officers working with local businesses to improve safety and reduce stress, ill health and employee absence.
The Fit3 programme has been developed to provide a more targeted approach to health and safety. The agreement identifies the work activities that have the highest rates of accidents, injuries and ill health to allow authorities to target finite resources.
Local Campaigns and Events
In addition to national campaigns, in Eastbourne we are targeting local resources at raising awareness of:
Lift safety
Legionella control
Young worker safety, to ensure that school children are properly supervised and are safe at work
We ran a free health and safety awareness event for local hotels, B&Bs, guest houses and care homes on 2 October 2007.
The event highlighted lift safety, legionella awareness, electrical safety and fire regulations. See photographs and a report on the event in this section and download the speakers presentations.
