Find out how to apply for a zoo licence.
A zoo is a place where wild animals are kept for exhibition and the public can visit for more than seven days in a 12 month period, with or without charge.
Wild animals are those that are not normally domesticated in Great Britain. It would include animals that have come from abroad and animals, birds and reptiles that are wild in this country.
This licence, under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981, does not cover circuses or pet shops, both of which are covered by other legislation.
