These licences are required to ensure proper care and treatment of animals, under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963.
An Animal Boarding Establishment is a business or a private dwelling, where accommodation is provided for other peoples' animals.
The licence requires certain conditions need to be met in relation to the size of accommodation, feeding times, registration of animals on premises and emergency procedure.
A licence is issued following a satisfactory inspection by the council's Environmental Health service and, if necessary, a veterinary surgeon.
