Safe, Sensible, Social - Free Seminar for Licensees

Licensees in Eastbourne were invited to a free Licensee Seminar on Friday 20 June 2008 between 11.00am – 1.30pm. The event was held in the Assembly Hall, Eastbourne Town Hall, Grove Road, Eastbourne, with free lunch and refreshments.

Safe, Sensible, Social - a Partnership Approach

Around 40 local licensees attended the seminar, which was designed to give an update of activities being undertaken by various partners and offers you the opportunity to ask questions of key personnel, including officers from:

  • Eastbourne Borough Council

  • Sussex Police

  • East Sussex Trading Standards

  • East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

A range of other organisations were also in attendance, offering advice, guidance and promotional material.

  • Opening address by Leader of the Council, Councillor Tutt

  • Policing The Evening and Night Time Economy - Inspector Nick Wainwright, Sussex Police

  • Local Authority Approach to Licensing - Kareen Plympton, Eastbourne Borough Council Licensing Manager

  • Fire Safety in Licensed Premises - George O’Reilly, Station Officer, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

  • Health and Safety in your Premises - Natalie Pearce, Senior Environmental Health Officer, Eastbourne Borough Council

  • Underage Sales and Proof Of Age Schemes - Sophie Mohns, East Sussex Trading Standards

  • Planning Implications For Licensees - Jeff Collard, Planning Manager, Eastbourne Borough Council

  • Closing address

  • Lunch and refreshments

We also launched our strategy to reduce anti-social behaviour and means to promote responsible drinking, including the use of polycarbonate glassware to reduce glass related injuries.

In addition, we also launched hand held metal detecting wands as a means to prevent offensive weapons being taken into licensed venues.
