Changes Under the New Licensing System

The new drinks licensing system under the Licensing Act 2003 has replaced Justices Licences for the sale of intoxicating liquor – on-licences, restaurant, residential, registered club and off-licences - previously issued by Magistrates Courts under the Licensing Act 1964.

Theatre, Cinema, Public Entertainment and Late Night Refreshment Licences previously issued by the Council have also been replaced by the new Premises Licences. Late night take-aways and fast-food outlets that serve hot food after 11pm need a licence, even if they did not need one under the previous system.
