The Economic Development team's objectives are set out in the Community Strategy for Eastbourne. They are met working in partnership with other agencies.

Priorities

 

  • Reduce the number of adults with poor literacy and numeracy

  • Improve standards in schools and colleges

  • Improve training available to employers

  • Provide space for business opportunities and growth

  • Co-ordinate activities across the Eastbourne Strategic Partnership to encourage people to return to work

  • Encourage further regeneration and development of the town, workforce and businesses

  • Prevent and reduce crime and disorder (including anti social behaviour) and the misuse of drugs and alcohol in Eastbourne

Commitments

 

  • Launch and deliver the Blueprint action plan

  • Influence Planning and comment on planning applications

  • Bring land forward for business use by encouraging new premises and development of existing premises

  • Retain existing businesses in the Borough

  • Foster partnership support to businesses

  • Continue to establish the Eastbourne Construction Training & Employment Charter

  • Continue to deliver the Town Centre Regeneration Scheme

  • Out source the Town Centre Management Initiative (TCMI) to a Business Improvement District (BID)

  • Reduce business crime through the Eastbourne Business Crime Group (EBCG)

  • Continue to Chair the Overseas Student Advisory Committee (OSAC)
